VISA guidelines

Greenland is not a part of EU or Schengen Agreement but, a part of the Kingdom of Denmark and a Nordic country. Here you can read about tourist VISA and documentation requirements when travelling to Greenland.

Nordic Citizens
Nordic citizens are free to enter reside and work in Greenland without visa or passport. Identity documentation is enough to travel to Greenland as a Nordic citizen. If you are staying in Greenland for more than 6 months, and moved from another Nordic country, you must register your address.

EU citizens and other citizens with VISA free entry
EU citizens and countries within Schengen Agreement can travel to Greenland without VISA but must show a valid passport and a return ticket within 3 months after arrival. If your citizenship is on the list, you are free to enter Greenland without VISA, you still need a valid passport and a return ticket to prove you’re staying short term.

Citizens of other countries that need a tourist VISA for entry

When traveling to Greenland from non-EU country, VISA and a valid passport are required when entering to Greenland. It is important to notice, that even though Greenland is part of Denmark, Greenland is not member of EU or within Schengen agreement. Therefore travelers from non-EU countries must apply for a VISA to Denmark with the main destination to Greenland.

Citizens of other countries with residency permit in EU or Schengen country, have entry permit to Denmark but not to Greenland, that is why you must apply for a VISA, if you want to travel to Greenland.

When combining two destinations, two entry permits and visas are necessary, one for Iceland and one for Greenland. That is why, we recommend you to be look into the Icelandic official agreements.
